Over the years, I have some lower end with cable trimmers. The cable is still on the road, and is not suitable to use scissors. 

When I left extension cords second, I had enough and bought the Black & Decker NHT518-1 18-volt cordless hedge trimmer electric. I was a little worried that the battery does not last long and the battery weight would be difficult to use the trimmer. In contrast, the trimer is considerably exceeded my expectations. 

The battery lasts long enough to meet all my (small) garden needs pruning less battery power. And the design of the trimmer seems to be well balanced and easy to maneuver. It is much more convenient to use the trimmer in my past that have helped me a lot to my father-in-law and trim shrubs, neighbor! (And I like working in the garden).

Great Tool

Recieved this yesterday from Amazon with 2 day shipping. Came completely assembled 
Trimmed juniper bush (14 years old) and cut through some pretty tough stuff. I do have the grass trimmer and the pole trimmer with 18 Volt batteries. I used two batteries to do about 80 feet of juniper, and used a 3rd battery trimming the lower branches of evergreen trees. 
overall worked as described, and very light weight. Good to have a second battery handy. I have gone now with 4 B&D yard tools with the 18 Volt batteries and they are all interchangeable. 
I wonder how I went so long without one of these….Great product

Received my black & decker hidge clippers 3 days after I ordered them. charged the battery for 24 hours and went to work. I had several bushes to trim and about 7 sets of plants. I was done in 90 min. It cut through quarter inch branches in no time. Took be longer to pick up all the clippings. 
These black & decker hidge clippers sure beat hand clippers.

Saving Time

I have two ac of land with fences on three sides. This unit has enabled me to walk the fence 
line and cut all the brush that grows along (some from my neighbors side of the fence) cut to the bottom. My neighbor has wild thorned blackberry bushes which seem to want to visit my side of the fence. This unit cuts them with no problem and the battery last long enough to do one half each day. Love the unit

Great yard tool

I have a gas trimmer but don’t like using it very much. I got the gas trimmer to replace a corded electric trimmer that froze up. The gas trimmer is heavy, vibrates like crazy, and is loud. When I use it I wear gloves, ear plugs, and safety glasses. It takes a couple hours to recover from using it for extended periods of time. 

I got this cordless trimmer and could not be happier for one of my self-bought christmas presents. I wore safety glasses and that was all that was required. It had been a while since I had trimmed my hedges which are arranged in three layers and the front lower hedges are rounded. I thought the battery would die before I was done but to my surprise I still had power left when I was completely done with the hedges and five other bushes. After trimming with this cordless, even without ear plugs, I could still hear, my arms weren’t constantly shaking/vibrating, my muscles weren’t tired from supporting the light weight of this one, I didn’t have to stop and mix oil and gas and refill the tank which causes me to smell like gas, and I didn’t have to fight with the cord like my previous electric trimmer. 

Using this one is painless, smell-less, noise-less, very easy, and very quick. Just push the lock button, grip the trigger handle, and start trimming. No fueling, cranking, getting out the extension cord and then having to put it back up.

Works great and power is just enough

This is a great hedge trimmer made by Black and Decker. The trimmer is quiet and because it is electric, it starts and stops instantly. The handle is sort of thick so squeezing the trigger and cutting for more than 5 minutes at a time might make your hand cramp (that’s what happens to me and I am 200 pounds). It states it can cut branches 3/4 inch, and it is true. With enough tenacity, you can cut up to 1 inch branches. When branches are too thick and get cut in the trimmer, it automatically shuts off. You then have to unjam it to restart it. 

Battery life is somewhat decent. I got about 30 minutes of use out of one battery with a few minutes break in-between. Highly suggested to have a spare battery charged and ready to go while you are using this. There is no option to connect a cord to it, only battery. 

The batteries are interchangeable with other 18 volt B&D tools, which is a huge plus. I have the complete set of blower, weed whacker and this trimmer. If you need a complete set, check out the Lawn Care set. That comes with a 3 battery charger (3 batteries) and hanging kit to organize the tools. 

The charger that is supplied with it is a “dummy” charger. It does not know when the battery is full and you have to keep an eye on how long you have had it plugged in. Recommendations are to not have it charged for more than 8 hours. I normally charge my battery in the morning and then use it in the afternoon. 

All in all, this is a great trimmer. It is silent and powerful. You can get a lot of work done without worrying about disturbing your neighbors because it makes very little sound. 

I highly recommend this tool.

Great trimmer

Bought the B&D NHT518 18 volt hedge trimmer because I was tired of “dancing” with the corded trimmer in order not to cut the cord, again, and again, and again. 

This 18volt model is more powerful and lasts longer on one recharge than my neighbor’s trimmer from another manufacture that cost more than what I paid. 

It’s light, well balanced and powerful. Now I look forward for the hedges to grow faster..that’s how pleased I am. And my neighbor chucked his and bought this model. 

And the nice part is that the battery can be used in other B&D models that use this battery type, INCLUDING their Drills, and Saws.

Excellent product. The battery charge lasts plenty long to do several bushes. Cuts well. Not having a cord to deal with is wonderful. Just pick it off the shelf, cut, and put back on theshelf. I recommend buying the better charger and not using the basic charger that comes with the unit. The better one allows you to leave the battery in the charger without overcharging and hence damaging it.
